Our investment philosophy

We offer diversified, multi asset class portfolio strategies specialising in:
  • Manager Research, incorporating our own qualitative and quantitative research; 
  • Asset allocation analysis across 120 asset classes and strategies. Asset allocation strategy has been proven to be the primary driver of outcomes for multi-asset portfolios; and 
  • Detailed analysis covering Stress Testing and Back Testing.

​Our approach increases the likelihood of portfolios achieving their objectives (ie. smaller draw downs, more risk control and higher probability of achieving return objectives). Quilla’s models and our investment philosophy are based on industry best practice. They are completely transparent and free of embedded conflicts of interest.

​Andrew Connors

​

Andrew is a senior investment strategist with over 20 years’ experience in funds management gained in London and Australia. His experience includes working with some of the largest fund managers in Australia and globally including, MLC Investment Management, INVESCO and Deutsche Asset Management.

Andrew’s specialist experience in asset allocation and investment risk management has been utilised by leading corporations, not for profits, family offices, financial advisers and High Net Worth individuals.


Andrew places great emphasis on developing strong relationships with his clients. He does this through a focus on regular communication and working collaboratively.
He also has a keen interest in financial technology having developed sophisticated technology for financial advisers and their clients. Through this work, Andrew has considerable experience in the Singaporean private wealth sector, with his technology utilised by a leading Singaporean bank.

Andrew graduated with a Bachelor of Economics from the University of Sydney and a Masters of Applied Finance from Macquarie University. He is RG 146 Qualified.
Michael Lange

​Head of Manager Research

Michael specialises in investment manager research, portfolio construction and management. He leads our Manger Research program and Brisbane office.

His extensive knowledge of managers and funds across asset classes is highly regarded, as is his focus on client service and outcomes.

Prior to joining Quilla, Michael spent over a decade working in a large boutique wealth management firm where he was a key member of the Investment Committee.

Michael holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) and a Diploma of Financial Services (Financial Planning).  He is also a Chartered Accountant and a Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA).
Mark Montaldi

Mark is an investment professional with over 25 years' experience in financial services, superannuation, private wealth and funds management with roles in strategic funds relationship, business management, product development and project management. Prior to joining Quilla, Mark held a variety of senior investment roles at BT Wealth, NAB Wealth, Russell Investments, Perpetual and the Sydney Futures Exchange.

At NAB Wealth, Mark was responsible for the relaunch and ongoing management of the Private Investment Consulting business – an asset advisory consulting service for select high net worth and invitation only smaller institutional clients, with funds under management growing to over $1.2bn within three years. More recently at BT Wealth, he managed the relationships with key investment managers under the Strategic Partner Programme of BT Investment Solutions.

Mark has a strong track record in developing unique investment service offerings for the retail market which have traditionally been the reserve of large institutional investors.

​Mark graduated with a Bachelor of Science from Macquarie University and has a MBA (Executive) from AGSM, Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance and Investment and Financial Planning through FINSIA. Mark is also a fellow at Kaplan and is RG 146 Qualified.
Nicolas Ward

Nicholas is an experienced Investment Consultant with specialist portfolio construction and HNW consulting expertise.

​Prior to joining Quilla, Nicholas worked at MLC where he held numerous roles including, most recently, working as a Senior Investment Consultant in their Private Investment Consulting team. Prior to that, Nicholas worked with Perennial Investment Partners as an Analyst.

He holds a Masters of Economics from Boston University and a Bachelor of Commerce (Finance and Accounting) from Notre Dame University, and is a Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA).

Jerome Bodisco
​Portfolio Manager

Jerome is a specialist investment professional with over 25 years’ financial services experience spanning investment research, institutional and private wealth consulting, investment strategy and investment management. 

Over the decades, Jerome has worked with a number of leading investment firms including Private Investment Consulting, JANA, MLC, QIC and Zurich (UK), supporting the full spectrum of clients ranging from personal investors, financial advisers, family offices, the not-for-profit sector and industry super.  In his previous role, Jerome was the Head of Investments and Investment Committee Chairman at boutique financial advisory firm, Profile Financial Services.

Jerome graduated from the University of Technology, Sydney, with Bachelor of Mathematics and Finance and Master of Business in Finance degrees.  Jerome also holds a diploma and advanced diploma of financial planning.  He was awarded the CIMA Society of Australia’s Program Scholarship in 2010 and is a Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA).

Jonathan Pain

Investment Specialist 

​Jonathan has 37 years of international investment experience having led investment teams in London, Bahrain and Australia.
Jonathan holds a joint Honours degree in Economics and Politics from Keele University and a Masters degree in Finance from Exeter University.
​
He is the author and publisher of a widely read investment newsletter, The Weekly Pain Report. Well known for his independent and often contrarian views, Jonathan is a regular guest on CNBC and ausbiz TV and speaks at conferences and seminars all around the world.
Jonathan is also an ‘associate’ of China Matters. Since 2003, Jonathan has repeatedly said that the most significant and defining economic phenomenon of our lifetime is the rise of the Asian middle classes. He now describes the U.S-China relationship as the most significant geopolitical risk of our generation, with Taiwan sitting in the crosshairs of this great divide.

In numerous speeches and articles in 2006 Jonathan highlighted the unsustainable levels of debt and the housing bubble in America, and respected commentators such as Alan Kohler have acknowledged his warnings of that impending crisis. In one of his most controversial and contrarian calls he predicted Donald Trump would win the 2016 US election. On Monday 24 February 2020, in a CNBC TV interview, he warned of an imminent 20-25% crash in global equity markets as the financial markets were far too complacent about the COVID outbreak. He was wrong they fell 35%.

Having been born in South Africa and lived in Lesotho, Swaziland, England and Bahrain, Jonathan now calls Australia home.
Sam Churchhill

Kieran works closely with our investment team to support and enhance our investment systems and operational functions.

Prior to joining Quilla, Kieran worked at PKF Accountants as an undergraduate Accountant. 

Keiran holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Finance and Accounting from the University of Queensland and is completing a Masters of Economics.

Jonathan works closely with the Quilla investment team providing analytical and client support. He is also responsible for the ongoing enhancement of our investment systems.

Prior to joining Quilla, Jonathan worked at Queensland Investment Corporation as a Portfolio Analyst.

Jonathan holds a Bachelor of Business (Accounting) and is currently completing the CFA course (Level 3).
Chelsea Dunne

Client Engagement and Support

Chelsea has more than 20 years' experience in client relationship management and business development roles.  Her experience includes working in senior roles with well known institutional brands in London and Australia.

Chelsea works across our team and functions to help support our clients,  including through the continual enhancement of our communications and collateral. 

She holds a Bachelor of Social Science (Marketing and Psychology).
